Work of the Palmerino sculptor Martin Lagares, the image will be installed in the interior of the Church where he founded the Obra para los Sagrarios-Calvarios.
Drafting. The sacristy of the parish of St. Peter [Huelva, Spain] received yesterday, June 14, the presentation of the sketch of the future image of Blessed Manuel Gonzalez to be installed inside the Church where he founded the Obra para los Sagrarios-Calvarios. The appointment brought together members of the commission that is working on the preparations for the events in the diocese [of Huelva] on the occasion of the canonization of the former archpriest of Huelva (June 16, will mark 111 years since he was appointed by Cardinal Spinola), whose date is expected to be announced on Monday, June 20, by the Holy Father in the Consistory Hall of the Apostolic Palace, where he will preside over the third hour and the ordinary public consistory for the canonization of five saints, among which is the Blessed Manuel González García.
The event, moderated by Manuel Cascales, a member of the said committee, had the intervention of the parish priest, Jose Arturo Dominguez; Ildefonso Fernández, priest and expert on the figure of Blessed; Sister Maria del Carmen Ruiz, superior of the Congregation of Missionaries of Nazareth Eucharistic in Huelva, and Martin Lagares, sculptor responsible for carrying out the work.
According to noted sculptor, the image will be made in high quality resin and life-size (1'80 m., approximately), a sculpture that "does not end in itself, but aims to convey the message of [Beato] Manuel, close to the poor and with an immense social work and catechesis, to join his passion for Jesus sacramentally". The boy who appears in the sculpture "represents the people [on whom] the Blessed wants to bring to the Tabernacle, pointing with his left hand." This is a relevant detail, taking account of the place in which the work will be located.
It was also used to present the campaign called "Granitos de Arena" (Grains of Sand), title of a well known periodical launched by the same blessed and that, as a popular and parish-driven subscription, intends to cover the costs arising from the implementation of this project.
